You Are God’s Masterpiece

We all value real jewels like rubies, pearls, and diamonds because they shine, sparkle, and shimmer. We may not have jewelry boxes full of expensive jewels; however, we are God’s priceless jewels. He took great care in creating us. “For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them” (Ephesians 2:10).

First of all, we are God’s beautiful rubies. “Who can find a virtuous woman? For her worth is far above rubies” (Proverbs 31:10). We are beautiful because we are virtuous. Like beautiful rubies, we shine, sparkle, and shimmer in God’s eyes when we are jewels to others. A virtuous woman is a light to everyone around her because her inner beauty shines for everyone to see. She is priceless!

We are also like rare pearls in God’s eyes; we are not common like fashion jewelry. Because fashion jewelry is less expensive than pearls, and we do not value it as much, most of us would be willing to trade in our cheap jewelry for rare pearls. When we accept Jesus as our Savior, we are willing to trade in our broken and tarnished jewelry for the “pearl of great price.” “The kingdom of heaven is like a merchant seeking beautiful pearls, who, on finding one pearl of great price, went and sold all that he had and bought it” (Matthew 13:45-46).

Finally, we are like forever diamonds. Only God can create diamonds deep within the darkness of the earth. Once we are removed from the darkness of diamond mines, we sparkle in God’s light. “For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light” (Ephesians 5:8). Because we are God’s real jewels, we will sparkle forever! Earthly jewels can be lost or stolen; however, when we are Christ’s jewels, our place in heaven is secure.

Throughout history, people have sought to find lost treasures. The most famous treasure hunter of the 20th century was Mel Fisher, who discovered the wreck of the Spanish ship Atocha, which sank in 1622 near Key West, Florida. Fisher’s sixteen-year quest to find the ship’s treasure was successful. On July 20, 1985, he found the “Atocha Mother Lode,” which was valued at $450 million. Fisher used the phrase, “Today’s the day” to motivate him to never give up in hunting for treasure.

Today is the day that Christ wants to find his precious treasure–you! As Jesus tells us in the parable of the lost coin, a woman who had ten silver coins and loses one will sweep her house until she finds the one that is lost. Then when she finds it, she will rejoice. Imagine losing a ruby, pearl, or diamond. You would search frantically until you found it. Because we are God’s priceless jewels, he does not want us to be lost. He will search for us so we can shine, sparkle, and shimmer in heaven!

“You will be a beautiful crown in the Lord’s hand, like a king’s crown in your God’s hand” (Isaiah 62:3).
